2021 Honda Pilot vs 2021 Volkswagen Atlas: which SUV to pick?
Choosing a 3-row SUV can be a challenge with so many to choose from. How can we make the right decision? Arbour VW in Laval has put together a Honda Pilot vs. VW Atlas comparison to show you all the advantages that the Volkswagen SUV enjoys over the competition; ready to get on board?
A better price
While the base model of the 2021 Honda Pilot costs $44,245, it will only cost you $40,095 to get your hands on the entry-level model of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas. And even with the base model, you'll get an SUV with a long list of features!
A robust design
Redesigned for 2021, the VW Atlas features a sleek, rugged silhouette, an all-new grille and newly designed LED front and rear headlamps. In addition, you'll get new wheels ranging from 18 to 21 inches in size, depending on the version and options you choose. Finally, you'll be able to enjoy a foot-activated power tailgate.
As for the Honda SUV, its silhouette looks rather tame compared to the Atlas, and you'll only be able to choose between 18- and 20-inch wheels.
The choice of not one but two engines
While the 2021 Honda Pilot offers only one engine on all its models, the 2021 VW Atlas offers you the choice between a 2.0 L, 4-cylinder engine with 235 horsepower or a 3.6 L V6 that generates 276 horsepower.
All versions of the Atlas feature a powerful 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, and depending on the model, you could benefit from a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Finally, the Atlas boasts a remarkable city/highway fuel efficiency of just 11.7/9.9 L/100 km, which is better urban performance than the Honda Pilot, with city ratings ranging from 12.4 to 13.0 L/100 km.
A spacious cabin
The least we can say is that Volkswagen didn't do things by halves when it came to the interior of the Atlas! In fact, it offers plenty of space for both luggage and passengers. What’s more, it boasts the most-spacious third-row seats in its category.
And as for cargo volume, you'll get 1572 liters when you fold the third row of seats; you need more space? With the 2nd and 3rd rows folded down, you could enjoy over 2,740 liters of space!
... packed with features
Comfort also awaits you aboard the Atlas with features such as heated seats, 3-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, ventilated front seats and much more, depending on the version you choose.
Depending on the model, the 2021 Atlas can be equipped with a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit, a feature not found on the Pilot, just like the MirrorLink system. In addition, you could enjoy Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, navigation, wireless phone charging, a powerful Fender audio system with 12 speakers and subwoofer and much more.
Safety is also high on the agenda for the Atlas, with features such as road-sign recognition, a feature not present on the Pilot. Blind spot monitoring is also standard on every version - which is not the case with Honda – as well as emergency automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, the traffic jam assist system and much more.
One thing's for sure: the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas has a lot to offer. All that is left for you to do is to take it for a test drive!
